Help needed at Sinthamani Divine Life Ashram!

Today I called Mr. Praveendran from Sinthamani Divine Life Ashram which is basically an orphanage which houses about 45 children, age 2 to 18.

I was sharing with my elf about how I would like to spread some Christmas cheer this year to some kids and realized that it's not so easy to find a suitable home.  It's easy but not easy, if you get what I mean.  There are many charities out there but it's hard to tell which one really needs our help.  And one day, fate directed me to a blogpost on Sinthamani Divine Life Ashram, located in Jinjang.

I saw some photos here, here and here and it kinda broke my heart a little.  The children have barely-there beds and pillows that are so frayed, I feel sorry for them too.

To a person who is blessed to have at least 7 hours of sleep every night in a very comfortable double bed, I feel ashamed. Like... seriously ashamed (sorry, not meant to put you, you and you on a guilt trip but you get what I mean right?).  So... I was thinking, maybe this Christmas, The Good Samaritan should be giving out new pillows for these kids!  But I'd reckon carrying 45 pillows to Jinjang is... quite a feat huh but that depends if my elf is off or on duty on the delivery date.  Hehe, but it's not set in stone yet.  I'm waiting for Mr. Praveendran to come back with his list of needs.  But so far, I told him I will help him spread word that this home needs BRICKS and SAND.  Yup, you heard it right.  They need BRICKS and SAND because they're building a boys' dormitory. from. scratch.

Wow.

Okay, where am I gonna find bricks and sand huh.  Do you know?  How much do they cost anyway?  Do they sell by gram?  :Pp Yeap, just realised that I am very insular huh.  Well, that's because I never needed to build my own house I suppose...

But anyway, if you know anyone who's in construction or building or whatever, please connect me!

Meanwhile, I'll post more about the home.  We could go together.  We could go separately.  It's up to you.  The most important thing is to show the kids someone out there is thinking about them and encouraging them to chase their dreams :) And great dreams start with resting their little heads on a good pillow :)) Honestly, really... if you think about it.  Them kids don't need our charity.  They may need logistic help, physical items but sometimes I feel that we urban people, need charity more.  We've grown so jaded, love seems so materialistic sometimes.  We forget to be grounded and appreciative of life - what we have, who we have.

Anyway, will keep you guys posted :)

Marni bag charm - SOLD!

Marni prides its Italian heritage and focuses on European bohemian details with a contemporary twist. Its design inspiration include 'funky', 'quirky', 'feminine' and 'offbeat' elements.  Certainly, pieces that are not designed for followers.

I got this bag charm from a kind donor.  Except for the little crack on the red ringlet (which is hardly noticeable), it's in a perfect condition.

Size: N/A
Colour and design: Brown leather strap with a combination of plastic, leather and metal ornaments, with Marni embossed on a small leather tag.
Condition (newness): 6.5/10 comes with its own accessory bag.
Price: RM20 COD

Perfect for dressing up plain bags and as you can see, my eco bag (not for sale :P).  Get this for someone for Christmas and I tell you what... I'll throw in a small little Christmas card to explain about The Good Samaritan project for your recipient so that he or she (yes, this is a unisex accessory - I think) knows how meaningful this gift is :)

Mail me for purchase!

New stuff in the shop! :D

Check out these new stuff soon!  Gonna post them separately once I get back from Tokyo.  Yes yes I see that excitement in your eyes cause we have stuff from Marni, agnès b, Gap to name a few and they're almost new (probably worn once or twice?).  Be patient! :)

If you wish to help this little shop grow, you can mail me the photos of your items (try to take interesting angles that focus on the details) at yay.we.got.sparks [at] gmail.com and I'll post em' up here.  This will probably speed things up a lot more, thanks to Good Samaritan @SulinLau.  Buyer banks in to my account (I know I know, sounds dodgy but we'll iron out the details as we go along) and you can pass the goods to the buyer directly (instead of dropping it off to me).  And I'll make a note of that purchase and usage of the funds here.

By the way, if you have any suggestions of charity or causes, please feel free to share as well.  Let me know! :)

Changing the world, one item at a time.  Xx

Make decorative functional.

I've been staring at this bottle of 2004 Evian for the longest time.  It came with a blue plastic cap and should look like a drop of water.  But the plastic cap cracked so I got rid of it.  Now, it looks like this:

A simple bottle.  I really like the details especially when you put it up against light, the 'snowflakes' on the bottle look like they're floating inside the glass bottle.  Pretty cool huh.  I don't have the heart to sell this cause I really like it (of course unless you like it more... then we can always discuss) but I don't want it to sit on my shelf and collect dust either.

So I've been staring at it for at least half an hour, trying to figure what else can I do with it.  It's too big to be a paperweight.  I actually thought of making it 'disperse' light, if I could get a bare light bulb and set it behind it.  And it will do some pretty serious lighting up in dark corners compared to a single light bulb alone, casting faint snowflake shadows.  But overall, I couldn't figure how it could be aesthetically appealing - bare bulb, wires and all.  I asked Google for opinions and it showed me how to make water bombs with bottles :P Wow, like what are our kids learning (worse, teaching) these days.

If you have any idea, please do share with me!  I just wanna make some good use out of it and my creative juice hasn't hit.  Let me know? ;)
